About Tanunda
Today Tanunda is the cosmopolitan heart of the
Barossa, Tanunda is at the heart of the Barossa and
surrounded by vineyards. The modern-day
township of Tanunda grew out of the village of
Langmeil, which was the focal point for early
German settlement.
The German Lutherans found it only natural to
plant vines, as it was a basic part of their lifestyle.
Many of the Barossa's shiraz vines date back to
those early days. Tanunda has a boisterous
German spirit, good eateries and fine examples of
Lutheran churches.
