About Meringo
Meringo is a suburb of South
Coast, New South Wales and
is about 254 kms south-
southwest of NSW's capital
city of Sydney.
Meringo lies at the end of a 5
km long sealed, then gravel
road that runs in from the
Princes Highway. There is
little there apart from the
beaches, a few houses and a
farm. The road ends at a low
headland with two beaches to
either side . The northern
Meringo Beach begins at the
northern 20 m high basalt
headland, with its eroded
columns exposed by wave
attack. It faces due east and
curves to the south for 950 m
to the 20 m high Meringo
headland. It is backed by
Meringo Creek and its small
lagoon, which breaks out
across the centre of the
beach; the remainder
backed by a densely
vegetated foredune and
cleared farmland.
